The Trip
We've been advised that the food is not what you would term gourmet so we're having one last meal in Vancouver at The Memphis grill. Good old Southern cookin'.
After we arrive 3 hours early at 7:00PM, we are informed that our flight to Calgary is canceled. Our flight to Varadero leaves from Calgary at 8:30 the next morning. The Air Canada ticket agent is quit clear that she is sorry, but will do whatever she can to help us with "our problem". After more than an hour she advices that we should try stand by to Calgary on a flight that already has 25 standby passengers and failing that to fly to Edmonton and take a cab to Calgary as the car rental agencies all close at midnight and we arrive in Edmonton at 1:30AM. The first option of course fails and now there are 13 passengers needing the same solution so I get on the phone and call an Edmonton cab company to bring 3 cabs to take us all to Calgary from the Edmonton airport. This does work and we spend the night in the cab and arrive at the Calgary airport in plenty of time to catch our 8:30 AM flight. Meanwhile our traveling companions booked exactly the same as us were rerouted through Toronto and we overnight and a day late to Cuba. Hardly an endorsement of Air Canada
