From Panama City we drove to Biloxi Mississippi. On our way into town the the gas gauge gave us the warning that we needed to fill up. Well it didn't mean in 30 miles when it's convenient or even 10 miles after we get settled in the hotel. No it meant the next gas station which I didn't do. We just got over the bridge into Biloxi when we ran out of gas. Well, the car stopped and the engine light came on which is a generic signal that the car is unhappy. I checked the oil and it was pretty low, but it wouldn't start, so after worrying for a while we decided to call AAA. These are the people that you call when you need help out of a tight spot with your car right, wrong. First I walked to the nearby Palace Casino and phoned to have someone come and bring me some gas. I was informed taht it would be about 45 minutes. Seems reasonable, so we wait patiently for 45 minute, well, maybe we'll give it a bit longer, but after an hour I go back and call again to see what the trouble is. The operator says that the company that handles AAA in Biloxi isn't allowed to deliver gasoline that close to the casino, so they will send a tow truck at no extra charge to tow me to a gas station in about 15 minutes. Hmmm..... one of these new homeland security issues we figure, so we wait, and wait. After 30 minutes I go and call again. The first operator puts me on infinite hold for 15 minutes while he tries to find out what happened to my tow truck. He never comes back. I call again. This time I'm not happy and the lady hangs up on me, I wasn't rude just unhappy and insistent. I call back. This time they tell me that the driver is driving around and can't find the Palace Casino. Ok, now not am I only ticked off, but I'm suspicious. A local tow truck driver who can't find a casino? I don't believe it, so they patch me through to the towing company where I find that of course they know where the casino is and no they don't deliver gas, but it's nothing to do with the casino, they just don't provide that service anymore, and they are busy with a major wreck on the interstate and will come as soon as they can, about 15 minutes. About 30 minutes later the tow truck arrives. So after 2 hours and 15 minutes, he drives me 3, do you hear that 3 blocks to the nearest gas station to get a can of gas which solves the problem. The life of an idiot is hard!
After spending 3 days gambling at the new casino strip in Biloxi we headed back eat toward Tallahassee. On the way we discovered these caves.
These caverns are formed by dissolving limestone deposits. I took tons of shots, but here are just afew.
Here you can see where the cavern has settled and the limestone formations have severed.
This is a pool.
The cavern floor is very soft. You can scrape it off with your finger nail.
Looks like the underside of a cow.
